Hilltop Action Coalition

Hilltop Action CoalitionThe Coalition (HAC) consists of individuals, families and organizations in the Hilltop Community working together to create a positive environment where illegal drug and gang activity will not flourish, striving to improve the quality of life for all residents.

Originally organized to respond to gangs, drugs, and crime on the Hilltop, the Coalition now also works on other issues that affect neighborhood stability, such as housing, health, and a clean environment. The Hilltop extends from 6th Avenue to South 27th Street and from Sprague to Tacoma Avenue.

The Board of Directors is made up of Hilltop residents who have been elected or appointed by the community and who are committed to grassroots issues and Hilltop-wide activities.

Hilltop Business District

HBA logoThe Hilltop Business District Association (HBA, click here) consists of businesses in and around TCNC's eastern border, L Street, one block west of the Hilltop's main street -- Martin Luther King Jr. Way.  The Hilltop was the first residential neighborhood to develop outside of downtown Tacoma in the late 1800s, Historic Hilltop is home to many cultures, restaurants, churches, views and people of all classes and incomes. Many Historic Hilltop residents are descendents of Hilltop's early settlements by Germans, Italians, Scandinavians, Japanese, Southeast Asians, Filipinos, African-Americans, Russians, Jews, Hungarians, Austrians, and Irish who immigrated here for work or made their home here after World War II.

Hilltop has recently transformed from an abandoned, blighted area to a vivacious and thriving community and is still a wonderful work in progress. It is an urban community that is rich in diversity, culture, and art.

Hilltop’s estimated 12,500 residents are proud of their grand Victorian homes, craftsmans with huge covered porches, and lovely parks. The Hilltop area offers community gardens such as the one at 8th & I Street: Neighbors Park and the Guadelupe Garden.

The HBA sponsors the Hilltop Street Fair in late August each year that is a fun and very popular event.  See it's website here.
