Alcohol Impact Areas

Central Neighborhood Council supported our City's petition to the state Liquor Control Board (LCB) to ban sales of the cheap high-alcohol-content booze favored by chronic drunkards from stores within central, west, and north Tacoma. This is called the proposed West End Alcohol Impact Area (AIA).  State law permits this. Tacoma and the LCB's prior designation of the downtown "Urban Core District AIA" and the "Lincoln District AIA" significantly reduced police and fire department burdens (and neighborhood trash and crime) in those districts.

The LCB approved Tacoma's petition for the West End AIA.

Considerable information about Tacoma's proposed and existing AIAs is at  Among the documents there are letters of support for the proposed West End AIA by CNC and 16 other local organizations and agencies.

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board approved the requested alcohol impact area on October 15, 2015. Click here for its Order.
