The fifth annual city-wide cleanup will have several locations around Tacoma. It is sponsored by the Community Councils of Tacoma, which includes all eight neighborhood councils, such as the Central Neighborhood Council.
Read more below or visit the LitterFree253 Facebook page.
Litter pickup will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at locations around the city. You can view all of the locations already identified by visiting this Litter Free 253 sign up page.
Volunteers can register at the sign up page for a specific location. All sites will have everything you need to pick up litter.
Each site will have a Litter Leader to provide:
The “buddy system” - work in teams of two or three to maximize safety.
Children - need to be accompanied and supervised by their parents.
Hazards - Be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards such as passing cars, hazardous tree branches, blackberry bush thorns, etc.
Sharp objects - Pick up sharp objects only with a litter grabber and place them in a plastic Sharps Container with a lid.
No dogs - For this event, organizers discourage bringing dogs, except for service animals.
Illegal dumping – report illegal dumping, graffiti, tires, animal carcasses and other hazardous materials to the litter leader.
Keep clean – Use your hand sanitizer
Dispose of your tied, filled bags in the designated City dumpster near your meet up site. Find your Litter Leader to return any unused supplies. Collect your surprise provided by the Litter Leader as a thank you for your hard work!
